Yang - Machines CD

SKU YANG 02
Long-awaited and quite wonderful second album by Yang. Wasn't sure it would ever happen (read below) but I'm glad it did and it is everything we were all waiting for!

"Founded by Frédéric L'Epée in 2002, Yang is an instrumental rock quartet which compositions mix guitar counterpoints with a powerful rock pulse. The band released its 1st CD “A complex nature” on Cuneiform Records in 2004... and disbanded before the first concert. Frédéric and Volodia stayed on board. Fortunately, bassist Nico Gomez and guitarist Laurent James, whom Frédéric had already worked with, were interested in taking part in the project, and replacing Stéphane Bertrand and Julien Vecchié. A new Yang was born, and rehearsals began. As the new musicians were very different from the previous ones, titles have been reshaped for their playing, and appeared to become more and more powerful. On stage the group were rocking hard, so the evolution toward a harder music was obvious. That is how “Machines” was composed: in one hand completing the repertoire for concerts, in the other hand creating pieces fitted to all musicians (contemporary music, contemporary jazz, metal, prog. metal, latin jazz, fusion and Eastern Europe traditional music)."-Frédéric L'Epée

Yang, a French quartet whose stunning compositons combine intricate guitar parts with driving rock, is the newest project led by French guitarist and composer Frederic L’Epée. L’Epée’s former projects include founding two of the most intriguing all-instrumental bands to emerge from France and capture international interest: Shylock and Philharmonie. Yang, L’Epee’s post-Philharmonie band, extends some of Philarmonie’s compositional ideas while adopting a harder tempered, more rock-based approach. Featuring the 'standard' line-up of two guiarists, bass and drums, Yang play a dynamic instrumental music that rocks hard, and which bears comparisons to groups such as Gordian Knot and King Crimson. Featuring intricate and often beautiful guitar pieces embedded in harder-tempered rock compositions, complex rhythms and melodic modes not previously seen in L’Epée’s work, and a rich variety of guitar treatments, A Complex Nature is an inventive, dynamic and accessible instrumental work that rocks hard. It is, in L’Epée’s own words: “the next step after Philharmonie’s last CDs: Rage and The Last Word.”
