This is a huge deal and a huge treat for me personally. Saxophonist and composer Faruq was one of the main instigators of the mostly forgotten and totally fantastic Detroit avant jazz band, Griot Galaxy, who only managed to have three albums come out during their 15 year existence.
This recording dates from 1982 and predates his very bad motorcycle accident which knocked him out of commision for years and years.
This features a very different instrumentation than Griot Galaxy (although Anthony and Jaribu were both members of that band) but the hallmarks of his compositional style (poly rhythms and odd meters contrasting with free improvisation) definitely show here. Personally recommended.

“After decades in the vault, Entropy Stereo has unearthed one of the most unique and obscure Faruq Z. Bey recordings for you. It was Faruq's dying wish that these recordings become available.
Meticulously recorded by Ron Decorte and mastered by Warn Defever. We made this live document available as a compact disc so as to not break up the flow of the suite.
This rare event took place at the Detroit Institute of Arts and includes tracks never before released with a drummerless ensemble. Limited to 500 copies.”
