“So, first off, this is a live show for pfunk enthusiasts. I believe this recording has also circulated in the past as a bootleg called “Rocky Mountain Shakedown”
This is the fastest I’ve heard them play some of these numbers, they sound on fire! The cd cover says it’s Michael Hampton and Bootsy but listening to some of these numbers like the Cosmic Slop into Red Hot Momma jam and Comin Round the Mountain, it sounds more like Eddie and Boogie to me. And George calls Bootsy back up on stage at the end which implies the rubber band had opened instead. Regardless, Maceo and Bernie are on fire as well and get their moments to shine, with a cool doubles solo between Bernie and Fred as well.
All in all, a great concert even if my ears are ringing a bit from all the high-end noise. The bass doesn’t get very bassy either and you can’t really hear the crowd, but for 1976 with a crowd in a live room, we’ll take it! This is parliament funkadelic at the height of their tightness, and they really play with it.”-Ian Leue
