“‘Jazzloops’ and its sequel ‘The Stolen Hour’ features Hopper with special guest appearances by his fellow Soft Machine members and friends; Robert Wyatt, Elton Dean, revered jazz drummer John Marshall, Gong alumni Didier Malherbe, and French guitarist Patrice Meyer.
Both discs have been remastered and the booklet features the original comic for ‘The Stolen Hour’.
Peter Pardo of Sea of Tranquillity’s reviews of the original releases concluded with this comment:
“Hearing Hugh Hopper, Elton...

Meccano Pelorus was Hugh's fourth album and the first release under his own name since the 1970s! Featuring his great FrangloDutch band (Patrice Meyer-guitar, Dionys Breukers-keyboards, Frank Van Der Kooij-saxes, Pieter Bast-drums + Hugh on bass), this was recorded live in 1987 and 1989 and was the beginning of his career back in the musical arena, after laying out for a good number of years.

This puppy was Hugh's third solo album, originally released around 1978, and a really hard one to find. I remember being thrilled when I scored a copy in London in 1979. One side is solo multi-tracked basses, recorded at home, while the other was live with band (Elton Dean-saxes, Mike Travis-drums, Jean-Pierre Carolfi-keyboards, and Jean-Pierre Weiller-bass; so two basses!) in Bordeaux, France, 3/20/74.
This is very much a 'home-made' album; the home recordings are very cool, but they include a...

Subtitled "Songs by Hugh Hopper", that's just what it is, as it collects tunes from the Voiceprint catalog of his songs and even includes a otherwise unavailable version of "Was a Friend" with Robert Wyatt singing! Well worth owning!

"This record reflects the work Hugh has achieved with various creative singers and lyricists, from 1983 through to 1999.
Featured musicians include Lisa S Klossner, Richard Sinclair, Rick Biddulph and Robert Wyatt."

"I got a message a few months ago from Hugh Hopper's wife Christine. She reported that since Hugh's passing, she's been struggling with finances. Of course she's also struggling emotionally, as she misses him terribly, but the gist of her message...

"This is the final of a ten part series curated by the late Mike King, which cherrypicks some of the best and most intriguing items from Hugh Hopper's archive. Until he died a few years ago, Hugh Hopper, probably best known for his work with Soft Machine, was one of Britain's most versatile and innovative bass players, and this multi album set confirms what a sad loss to both jazz and rock his passing was. Vale Hugh. Vale Mike."

Honey Ride Me A Goat is an improvising rock trio of Jonny Shoults-drums, and Motney Slim and Michael Pike-guitars. In 2008, they joined up for an improvised session with another Kent resident, bassist Hugh Hopper for what was originally planned as the...

This is the 1st of two collaborative albums that paired Hugh the composer with vocalist Lisa. Both of the albums they made are quite good, with Lisa's lyrics and vocals set against Hugh's compositions and programming. Also appearing are Hugh on fuzz bass, Elton Dean, and a couple of other guests. An interesting album of songs.

"I just bought Different recently. It, and the sequel album are musically and lyrically intellengent and interesting. This is not anything you will ever hear on Pop radio...

In the early/mid 00s, Hugh started working with his computer and started cutting up and putting together music in the new technological version of how he did it starting in 1963, when Daevid Allen showed him what a tape loop was. He made two full...

Newly lowered and extremely attractive pricing on this excellent box set. Hugely recommended to fans of 70s electronic sounds!

Philippe Besombes is a French electronic musician of the 70s and this reissues four of his works from the 70s, both solo and with his group Hydravion.
The two solo releases, Libra (1975) and Ceci Est Cela (1979) have both been previously released on CD by MIO, but they have been out of print for a decade. These include the bonus tracks that were on the MIO...

“The untold early history of Amsterdam's seminal collective. Founded in 1967 by three of European free music's leading lights -- pianist Misha Mengelberg, drummer Han Bennink, and saxophonist and clarinetist Willem Breuker -- the Instant Composers Pool (ICP) was simply one of the most important vehicles for experimentation and improvisation in the history of creative music.
Culling ideas and materials from jazz, modern and contemporary classical music, Fluxus, traditional music from the Balkans and...

This set, which includes THREE ALBUMS of previously unheard live recordings from 1967-1969 by the band that grew out of Pärson Sound and turned into Trad, Gras Och Stenar and perfectly exemplified the mind meeting of Terry Riley with The Velvet Underground, is just a great as you would hope. Recommended.

The second, final and definitely much more whacked album of the two by this (acid) folk/progressive trio who released this to complete indifference on Transatlantic in 1971. Derek Noy wrote the material, sang lead and played guitar, trumpet, trombone and 'zelda chord', Denis Conlan played drums and Michael Bairstow played flute, clarinets and saxophones. There were also some excellent and at times really odd orchestrations. Three long tracks here. Wonderful to see this reissued legitimately and rather...

“CIRKUS - originally issued in 1999 as a 30th anniversary celebration of the group's live output 0 offers an effective introduction to Crimson as a touring outfit. From the Fillmore West in San Francisco in 1969, via the Concertbouw Amsterdam in 1973, to the Spectrum Montreal in 1984. And on to Nakano Sun Plaza Tokyo in 1995, all eras of Crimson are represented and a variety of the band's most enduring music is featured. Crimson live has always been a very different beast in the concert hall compared to...

Stephen Wilson mixed edition of the 1st album by the 80s comeback album by this seminal group, which blew a lot of minds back then. There isn't so much extra on the CD itself (some alternate mixes). The DVD contains the new and 30th anniversary mixes in high-res stereo a 5.1, hi-res mix. Additionally there's the preliminary rough mixes of the album in the original order and three tracks video tracks filmed for the BBC's OGWT (too bad they couldn't get the two pieces they performed on "Fridays" - I...

(In)famous, bootleg-quality, originally import-only live CD by the 'Islands' version of King Crimson, recorded live in the USA, just before the band collapsed in February and March, 1972.

Note: This is my personal opinion: Not even Robert Fripp can polish the sonic turd that is Earthbound and make it sound 'good'. Still, the Summit Studios stuff is quite good quality and there are bonus tracks which are better than most of what was originally on the album.

"The thirteenth release in the King Crimson 40th Anniversary series.
Earthbound was originally issued in 1972 and marked the final statement by the band's Islands-era incarnation.

* The CD features an...

1969 BBC recordings and recordings from the group's 1969 USA tour. Quality is variable, but more than half of it excellent for long lost, non professional recordings and it's all pretty fascinating.

"This 3 CD set draws together a collection of studio and live recordings of King Crimson as a double duo. It consists of three releases which were previously available individually, including Happy With What You Have To Be Happy With (2002 original y release date), Level Five (2001 original release date) and EleKtriK (2003 original release date)."

“After being out of print for many years, Heavy ConstruKciton is back, packaged in a striking eco-wallet, and containing 3 discs of music - culled from various European concerts in 2000 with 2CDs of concert highlights joined by a third disc of improvs from that tour.”

The group's fourth studio album, now in a Steve Wilson full remix, and the end of 'mach 1' King Crimson, as it's the last with Mel Collins, who had served the Crimson King so well on #s 2-4, the last with the help of his Brit-jazz buddies like Keith Tippett, Harry Miller, etc., and the last with lyricist Peter Sinfield.

Fifth studio album and back in reinvigorated form with John Wetton, Bill Bruford, David Cross, Jamie Muir and bad Bob ripping out some amazing guitarwork!

"Larks' is the first of a studio trilogy that encompassed 'Starless and Bible Black' and 'Red' - a body of work that still sounds remarkable some 30 years later."

Yes, it's overkill, but it's kind of magnificent overkill, as it includes every recording there is by this band and much more. Read below to see what is included in this insanely deluxe set. The live performance DVD is beyond revelatory, as is the Session Reels and Alternate Takes discs. Now out of print and no more are to be made.

One of the very best of the recordings of the pre-Bruford version of King Crimson to emerge from the King Crimson Collector's Club was this full set from the 'Islands' line up of the band & it beats the total crap out of Earthbound!...

"Featuring 41 minutes of music in stereo (CD) and high resolution stereo (DVD-A), playable on all DVD players."

The surprising reunion tour that led to a 'everyone knew they would do this' but still quite groovy live disc....

"I was floored when I heard this album, Live in Guildford 1972. The sound quality here is flat---there is little depth and no dynamic other than one instrument blocking out another on occasion, but the 25 minute improvisation on this record entitled "All that Glitters is Not Nail Polish" is powerful, memorable, formidable, exhilarating, menacing, and inspiring. The version of Larks Tongues in Aspic Part I is good, and the other tunes aren't all there, but with this recording I finally found what I'd...

All the below is nice to read, but here’s what you need to know: This previously lost soundboard cassette recording, which only emerged in late 2017, is the single best sounding live example of Jamie Muir’s short tenure with the band!

“It’s remarkable, from this distance in time, to imagine that a band with four chart albums (and an official live bootleg) in its history and the reputation such entailed, could embark on a UK tour, with a completely new line-up featuring just a...

This is a great sounding live release taken from a single night in the middle of the band's tour in November, 2015 from the surprising band reunion that gets nothing but very high marks from everyone who has seen it (they haven't come to my neck of the woods yet, so I am sadly not one of them!) and it's always nice to see new music from a seemingly fully engaged Robert Fripp and company! And it's a genuinely LIVE, live album!
