"An expanded 3 CD edition of the acclaimed Procol Harum album "Exotic Birds And Fruit".
Released in April 1974, the album was the product of a series of recording sessions beset by power cuts, the result of industrial strife during the winter of 1973. Despite having to work around these difficult conditions, "Exotic Birds and Fruit" would prove to be another fine collection of material written by Gary Brooker and lyricist Keith Reid, featuring such classic tracks as 'Nothing But The Truth'...

Wilson (drums), Chris Copping (organ and harpsichord), Alan Cartwright (bass) and Dave Ball (guitar), the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and the Da Camera Singers. First time ever for a CD release for the second album by this British progressive band. Recorded in 1971, this moves beyond the 'proto-progressive' sound of their self-titled first album into a early 70s, British, full-fledged progressive rock sound....

First time ever for a CD release for the first album by this British proto-progressive band's first album whose release was actually the first album release on the Famous Charisma label! Originally released in 1969, this featured two keyboardists, one...

“Limited four CD + 2 DVD set. Following the release of the album Drastic Plastic and tour, Bill Nelson disbanded Be Bop Deluxe.

Aware of the emergence of the New Wave artists and out of a desire to continually evolve, he announced the formation of Red Noise. Working with co-producer John Leckie, Bill recorded a new wave masterpiece, a record that would influence a new generation of musicians with it's intelligent and punchy material.
Sound On Sound and the subsequent live shows would divide.

“Following the release of the album ‘Drastic Plastic’ and a subsequent tour, Bill Nelson disbanded Be Bop Deluxe. Aware of the emergence of the so-called New Wave artists and out of a desire to continually evolve and progress as a musician, he announced the formation of a new band, Red Noise. In hindsight Nelson’s new venture can be seen as taking up the musical baton from where he left off with ‘Drastic Plastic’.
Working with co-producer John Leckie, Bill recorded a new wave masterpiece, a record...

A terrifically fun blast from 1974 that I adored when I was in High School. Refugee was the rather short lived progressive rock keyboard power trio of the then unknown Patrick Moraz on a gigantic assortment of keyboards (I seem to remember that the original album on Charisma had a listing of all that Patrick used) along with the two 'refugees' from The Nice, Lee Jackson on bass and vocals and Brian Davison on drums. Despite this fine start, the band was not to exist more than a year because shortly...

On this, their fourth, all the elements and the members are here:
Annie Haslam- vocals, John Tout-piano/keyboards, Michael Dunsford-acoustic guitar, Jon Camp- bass/guitar and Terrence Sullivan-drums.
This was their first fully formed record in the style that we came to know as Renaissance. It mixes folk, progressive rock, classical and various European influences, all fronted by Annie's quite spectacular vocals, in a pleasing way.
One of the most popular of the progressive rock bands of...

“FEATURING A PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED BBC IN CONCERT PERFORMANCE FROM 1978, A PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED PERFORMANCE FOR SWISS TV IN 1974 AND THE 1977 BBC SIGHT & SOUND IN CONCERT TV AND RADIO CONCERT.

Although Esoteric’s expanded Renaissance re-issues featured BBC recordings, this set comprises material previously omitted from these releases. ‘Can You Hear Me: Broadcasts 1974-1978’ includes the stereo radio version of the band’s 1977 BBC Sight & Sound In Concert performance (recently discovered in the...

"This is a release of a newly re-mastered and expanded 3CD clamshell box edition of the classic album, "Novella" by Renaissance.
Recorded in late 1976, the album featured the epic 'Can You Hear Me?' along with the classic tracks 'Midas Man', ' Touching Once (Is So Hard to Keep)' and 'The Sisters'.
Because of record company issues, the album was released in January 1977 in the USA, but appeared in the UK and Europe in August 1977. "Novella" was a top 50 hit album in the USA and the band's...

After releasing two (excellent but unsuccessful) albums in 1969 and 1970, Renaissance started to unravel with new members replacing the founding members, until, by the time of this, their 3rd release, no member remained from the original band who played on the first two albums! But surprisingly, this accident of chance led to the formation of one of the best loved progressive bands of the 1970's.
This first album by the 1970's version (i.e. the Annie Haslam version) of the band is definitely a....

“The Tuscany album saw a reunion of the band with Annie Haslam, Michael Dunford and Terence Sullivan coming together to record this album at Astra Studios in Kent. The sessions also featured an appearance by keyboard player John Tout on ‘Pearls of Wisdom’, ‘Dear Landseer’ and ‘Dolphins Prayer’, the latter two songs also featuring guest Roy Wood (who also appeared on ‘Life in Brazil’). The band was further augmented by keyboard player Mickey Simmonds.
Following the release of the album, in March 2001...

“WTF? Classical, jazz & choirs sound not suitable at first, but this album is a grower, the diversity of the musicians & singers perfectly serves the music of the Residents.”

“To celebrate their 50th Anniversary, The Residents undertook a secret, one-off performance in their hometown of San Francisco. Joined on stage by a hand-picked cast of guest artists, the group and their friends performed a dream setlist of classics from the band's back catalogue, including songs never performed live...

One of Terry's greatest albums, with two side long pieces. The first is for multiple keyboards, while the other is a slow, droney work for organ and soprano sax. Classic early minimalism and hugely influencial on modern composition as well as progressive rock players (listen to this and then listen to Soft Machine Third or Six or Hugh's 1984, among others).

The classic early 1960's recording of what could definitely be considered the 'grandaddy' of systems music. A very simple score of a number of small musical cells, each numbered. All the musicians start at the same point, but each is free to move onto the next cell whenever they like, as long as they have completed playing each cell all the way through. Thus, the interlocking patterns are completely arbitrary and the possibility of combinations enormous.

Extensively remastered, this is the first legitimate reissue of what is perhaps THE top Canadian psychedelic rarity.

“Recorded in a time when creativity counted for more than commercial appeal, the album was recorded for the eclectic Sound Canada label. It sold poorly, but was rediscovered as part of the revival in interest in psychedelia; the only problem—copies of the original album are incredibly rare (and incredibly expensive!).
"Royal American…" seems to have one foot planted on either .

"In May 1978, Todd Rundgren performed a series of concerts at The Roxy Theater in West Hollywood, California with a band comprising members of The Hello People (Bobby Sedita, Larry Tasse, Greg Geddes and Norman Smart) along with keyboard player Moogy Klingman, bassist John Seigler and drummer John Willie Wilcox.
This clamshell boxed set includes the entire set from the 23rd May concert over two discs, along with a third disc comprising other soundboard recordings made by Todd during his residence...

"1994 saw the release of Todd's ground-breaking NO WORLD ORDER album, which was the first interactive album release utilising the recently developed CD-i format, allowing the listener to alter the playback of the interactive disc by selecting one of four pre-determined sequences prepared by different producers. Such an exciting concept gave birth to a unique and exciting tour, which saw Rundgren appear on his own on stage surrounded by keyboards, guitar and performing live utilising the latest technology. "Released in 1975 by Gull Records, Psi-Fi was the second album by SEVENTH WAVE, initially a studio project which was the brainchild of musicians KEN ELLIOTT and KIERAN O'CONNOR (previously with the pioneering group Second Hand).
Psi-Fi followed on from the acclaimed Things to Come (released the previous year) and was the result of many sessions at Chalk Farm Studios in London. Unlike the previous Seventh Wave album, Psi-Fi saw keyboard player / vocalist Ken Elliott and percussionist Kieran O'Connor...

"Released in 1974 by Gull Records, Things To Come was the brainchild of musicians KEN ELLIOTT and KIERAN O'CONNOR (previously with the pioneering group Second Hand).
The conceptual album was recorded at Chalk Farm Studios in London and was the result of many hours of meticulous overdubbing, with Ken Elliott playing an arsenal of keyboards and utilizing the latest synthesizer technology of the day (in addition to providing vocals), whilst Kieran O'Connor played a multitude of percussion....

A very good album from 'way back when' with a fairly incredible story! I had never seen or heard it before now, although I knew its legend...!
Chris Spedding Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar
Roger Potter Bass, Double Bass
John Marshall Drums
John Mitchell Piano, Electric Piano
Paul Rutherford Trombone

"Between 1969 and 1972, Chris Spedding was a rock guitarist whose unique sound, style and musical literacy meant regular employment on the exploding British progressive jazz.

"Formed in Los Angeles in 1967 from the remnants of The Red Roosters, Spirit was one of the great bands to emerge on the US West Coast in the psychedelic era. Featuring the talents of 16 year old guitarist Randy California (who had played guitar with Jimi Hendrix in New York the previous year), his step-father drummer Ed Cassidy along with Jay Ferguson (vocals, percussion), John Locke (keyboards) and Mark Andes (bass), Spirit signed to producer Lou Adler's newly established Ode Records label in late 1967...

“Released in November 1970, ‘Twelve Dreams of Dr Sardonicus’ was the fourth by the Spirit line-up of Randy California (guitar, vocals), Ed Cassidy (drums), Jay Ferguson (vocals, percussion), John Locke (keyboards) and Mark Andes (bass) and was produced by David Briggs (best known for his work with Neil Young).
Although not the highest charting Spirit album, ‘Twelve Dreams of Dr Sardonicus’ is now regarded as one of the band’s finest works. The album spawned the single ‘Animal Zoo’ and included...

New, remixed and remastered edition of the first solo album released by the bassist of Yes when the band took a break after the Relayer tour.
It's one of the best two (and maybe the best) of the solo albums released by the members of the band, imo.

"Formed in Bristol in 1969, STACKRIDGE were one of the most unique British bands of the era. Possessing a gift for melody, musicianship and a fine sense of humour, their concerts were legendary. The band appeared at the very first Glastonbury festival and soon after signed to MCA Records. A succession of wonderful albums in the 1970s earned the band a loyal following but following line-up changes and the release of the album ‘Mr. Mick’ they disbanded.
It was therefore a pleasant surprise when in 1999..
