Tripod is a trio of vocals/12 string bass/bass pedals, alto & tenor sax/flute/clarinet/pedals/backing vocals and acoustic and electric percussion. "All three members of the New York-based band have a long and varied musical experience, and were no strangers to the stage when they first got together in late 1998. Possibly the most unique feature of TriPod's sound is Clint's use of a 12-string bass, which triples every note and ensures a solid harmonic base. Along with bass pedals and Keith's electrified multi-horns, the sound proved full enough for the trio to dispense with either a guitarist or keyboard player. TriPod's visceral live performances led to their discovery at CBGB's by music legend Genya Ravan (formerly of Ten Wheel Drive, one of the best 'horn bands' of the 1970s), who also produced their first CD, which has been described by one reviewer as an inspiring mixture of King Crimson, Cheap Trick and John Coltrane. The band's own assessment of their sound is that "it reflects our surroudings - loud, cultured, agressive, with a dynamic and intense energy". TriPod's second release is music without boundaries. It combines a wide range of styles - from progressive rock to jazz-inflected metal through more atmospheric sections - with an occasionally cryptic but always meaningful lyrical content."
