For me, this album came completely out of nowhere and was very impressive both compositionally and in terms of performance.
Cedric is a touch guitarist who – on this one at least – has come up with a sort of composerly and moody album that feels like it’s in the chamber-rock vein much more than what I think of ‘touch guitar’ music as being. Recommended!
“On “Colour Spectrum”, Cedric returns to his progressive roots and uses a more traditional instrument line up of live drums, the U8 Touch Guitar, keyboard, percussion, and bass clarinet, to construct the pieces. With ambient music and other modern composers as touchstones, Cedric shows us his deep knowledge of different genres and his ability to add variety in timbre and feelings, often within the same song.
The focus on the expansive sound of the U8 touch guitar, developed in part by touch guitar pioneer Markus Reuter and who Cédric has studied with, has definitely influenced how Cedric thought about composing the music on “Colour Spectrum”. The arrangements of the pieces aren’t dumbed down to fit into neat, rock or pop formulas. Instead, “Colour Spectrum” brings something truly novel to the musical landscape. It is an invitation to the curious to filter today's distractions and be open to listening to something truly unique created by a talented and distinctive artist.”
