Prosper were a dual guitar, Fender Rhodes/mellotron/mini-Moog, bass and drums progressive band. The keyboards give it a jazzier/fusion touch.
“With a history going back to various 1960's blues and early-1970's prog bands, Prosper were part of a family of bands that included Wallenstein, Tobogan, Aera and Contact Trio.
After splitting up once, they reformed in 1975. Guitarist Evert Brettschneider played with both Contact Trio and Prosper at this time, doing the technical noodly jazz with one, and freaking out more with the other. This notably gave Prosper a fiery John McLaughlin "Mahavishnu" feel to a lot of the more lively instrumentals. In all the mix of jazzy, blues and prog styles was pretty wide-ranging, with multi-guitar textures akin to Agitation Free in parts, and hints of Canterbury scene inspiration (occasionally like Brainstorm).
The album is a little flawed, with a couple of low points, but some may see this as variety and relief after some of the wilder sizzling numbers.”-Alan Freeman
“Prosper were coming from Bottrop, a town situated in the northwestern part of the Ruhr district area. Thinking of Bottrop reminds more of soot, refreshment kiosks, pubs on the corner, and pigeon breeders than of good music. But whoever might think that is fooled. In the early year of 1975 Prosper released their only LP “Broken door” (BTS 7511), a real masterpiece and now one of Garden of Delights’ better CDs.
The sound has a psychedelic touch, is decent, imaginative, and never boring. Thanks to the guitarist Evert Brettschneider one can note, now and then, influences of jazz. Brettschneider performed too with the Contact Trio. By the way, co-founder of Prosper has been Jürgen Pluta who later did the bass with Wallenstein.
In the CD’s booklet you can find – as usual – the band’s history in detail, a lot of photos, discographies etc.”
