Recorded in New York in 1979. When Daevid came to NYC, he met up with his old manager/label owner Georgio Gomelski, who was living in New York at the time. Georgio hooked Daevid up with a young up 'n' coming band that he was working with...Material!
So, you've got Bill Laswell-bass, Bill Bacon-drums, Fred Maher- drums and Cliff Cultreri-lead guitar, plus other assorted downtowners (a few years before there was a downtown scene or sound) like Gary Windo, Don Davis (Microscopic Septet and early Doctor Nerve!) and Mark Kramer (back when he still had a first name...).
"As unlikely as it sounds, i think this is on my top 3 or 4 of all the Gong and Daevid Allen entire discography. This band simply gelled well! To me it sounds like a concept album from some punk-prog world. The songs are really melodic (like some of the best from Allen) and still can deliver surprises, clever writing, creativeness, and go into unexpected turns (like any prog group should).
Sax player Gary Windo is very responsible for 'skewing' this album in the right direction, with his extraordinary sound and wonderfully shrieking solos.
Also the groove from Laswell and drummer are great. One of the greats from Gong/Allen...to me is right up there with 'Angels Egg', 'Camembert Electrique', 'Now is the happiest time', 'Good Morning' and 'You'. Recommended!"
