Embarassingly, not only had I never heard this 1976 release on Brain before this first-ever CD issue, but I wasn’t even aware that it existed!
Gulda was a acknowledged master of the piano, in both modern classical and improvised settings. With his longtime musical (and life) partner, Ursula Anders, as well as Cecil Taylor, Albert Mangelsdorff and The Trio (Surman, Phillips, Martin), he recorded this album live, in front of a small audience, in the summer of 1976, during a summer rainstorm.
