Eyestrings is fronted by Ryan Parmenter, the nephew of Matthew Parmenter, of the late, great Discipline. Like Matthew, Ryan plays keyboards and sings, and featured in the band is bassist Matthew Kennedy from Discipline, plus guitarist Alan Rutter and drummer Bob Young, who was also in Discipline at one time. As I said about their quite good, not great, first album, "This is promising, but I am waiting for their truly great second release". And this one really is much closer to 'monster' territory; the playing is much more assured, the ideas are better developed and it has the wonderful dark vibe that Discipline had. I am sure that Ryan is rather sick of the Discipline comparisons, but they are accurate - to a point - and until Discipline came on the scene, no one was plowing this attractively eerie, dark strain of symphonic rock, and since they split, no one else has done it...until now! So, the comparisons remain! Highly recommended to symphonic rock fans. [Split Difference]
