The debut CD from a quartet from Brasil who fuse the popular music of Northeast Brazilian music with jazz, bits of Andean folk music and perhaps even a touch of chamber music. Two guys handle drums and percussion and the other two are utility outfielders, handling violin, viola, bandolim, marimba, flute, acoustic guitar, double bass and harmonica. Phew. This is mostly intrumental. I suppose that this is 'world music', but it's very fresh and friendly, yet it doesn't seem to be aiming for Billboard's charts and you certainly won't hear this self-released album it on the radio. If you like 'world music', this is quite nice and it's neither sappy or slick and the string work by the two players is very fine.
