RDM-EDITIO PRINCEPS 11
This is a reissue of the first Armazem album with over 25' of live material from a show in France in 2005 added and with the early material remastered as well! A Brazilian band making their debut on this, their 1st album, released in 2002, and never available outside of Brazil. Somewhere between complex progressive and highly arranged jazz. Extremely good stuff. Highly recommended! "Armazem (Warehouse) is a 3 year old septet (acoustic guitar/cavaquinho, flutes, sax/clarinets, saxes, keyboards, bass and drums). The band is directed by Sergio Cardoso, who has been working with contemporary music for the last 10 years and received 1 French and 3 Brazilians prizes for his compositions and a fellowship to study with Pierre Boulez, Luciano Berio & Emannuel Nunes. However, Armazem has a different proposal than contemporary music, mixing Brazilian rhythms, as jongo, maracatu and zambĂȘ, with jazz, in a similar way to what Hermeto Pascoal does. The CD is a homage to Hermeto Pascoal, and their music is very influenced by the Brazilian wizard, although they have a little more fire than the last recordings by Hermeto."
