This is a pretty great, very, very rare album from Italy. Using a lineup of acoustic piano, electric bass and drums, this has the sound of a jazz trio playing progressive rock. The music swings at points but there's too much 'trickery' and stop/start-ness going on for this to really be considered a jazz album. As Bill said when we were working and this was playing, "If the second side of the first Emerson, Lake and Palmer album had been more like this, the world would have been a better place", and yes, it does resemble the acoustc piano/bass/drums bits of ELP, but this is better, imo.
"Another completed missing link in Italian prog history! Hailing from Sardinia, Cadmo where a jazz-prog trio that had their debut on the legendary Vedette label (Metamorfosi) in 1977. While their members [Antonello Salis (keyboards) Riccardo Lay (bass) Mario Paliano (drums)] are nowadays considered among the best jazz musicians in Italy, in the seventies they still enjoyed mixing up several musical influences, so please expect a musical range that starts with Soft Machine-alike freeform crescendos, wild jazz rock in the best Italian tradition and tribal/ethnical Mediterranean influenced tracks not far away from Mauro Pagani, always with an outstanding top-notch musicianship. Great stuff indeed!"
