"This little CD of twenty-nine tracks from Frank's Utility Muffin Research Kitchen from his home/basement in the Hollywood Hills really serves as a mini-autobiography of his life and works. How may a composer's life's works be condensed onto a single, shiny plastic disc? Well, it can't, but FZ gave us a taste of what his life's works were all about: Let's just say the "good, bad, and ugly" of it. Yes, tracks 4 and 5 are genuine "booger stories," and who doesn't recount such sophomoric stories of one's friends when one is growing up here in America? My gosh, it is frightening to think that we were all once like that, and Frank documents it on tape and releases it on a sort of a "swan song" CD compilation, which is what this disc is. Yes, Frank had a way of exposing all of us, and this collection is really a time-travel trip through the American music scene of the 1950s through circa 1980, when he was making music with the Bozzios, Arthur Barrow, and Tommy Mars. Frank begins with his gigs in bars and nightclubs in San Bernardino and such, and, yes, it is gruesome, and I am sure that Frank would agree. Of course, that's why this stuff is on the album. Once again, the "good, the bad, and the ugly" of it. However, it is thoroughly entertaining and refreshing - a composer "in progress." And this CD documents what a composer/musician must go through in order to "pay his dues."-Bradley Evans
