Robert's 2007 album finds him on a new, very hip indie label, getting really good pre-release press and with a large cast of musical helpers: Alessandro Fedrigo - Guitar (Bass), Alfonso Santimone - Keyboards, Piano, Annie Whitehead - Horn (Baritone), Trombone, Brian Eno - Effects, Keyboards, Vocals, Chucho Merchán - Violin (Bass), Dave Sinclair - Piano, Del Bartle - Guitar, Gianni Bertoncini - Drums, Gilad Atzmon - Clarinet, Saxophone, Karen Mantler - Vocals, Mônica Vasconcelos - Vocals, Maurizio Camardi - Saxophone, Orphy Robinson - Steel Pan, Vibraphone, Paolo Vidaich - Percussion, Paul Weller - Guitar, Phil Manzanera - Guitar, Steaming To - Clarinet, Vocals, Yaron Stavi - violin and Robert himself on Cornet, Guitar, Keyboards, Metronome, Percussion, Piano, Producer, Trumpet, Pocket Trumpet, Vocals. Alfie has provided artwork and some of the lyrics.
Like the best jazz sessions, the music on Comicopera is prevaded by a sense of musical camaraderie and unforced interplay. The shifting small ensemble is led by Wyatt's fragile-yet-affecting vocals, keyboards and trumpet. It's augmented by Paul Weller's guitar, Brian Eno's loops and samplesplus sax, trombone and violin. The results feel homemade - in the best sense - organically fusing jazz, rock, Tin Pan Alley and electronics."-Jazziz, 10/07
