An anthology of traditional music and new repertoires for zampogna, the typical bagpipe of Southern Italy. Zampogna is one of the most important instruments of the Italian traditional music. There exists different types of this instrument that is spread out in all the national territory. After a dark period when the use of zampogna almost disappeared, today there is a great revival, many young players brought it back and we are living a very crucial period of transition. This CD displays the present situation of the use of zampogna in his many forms with young and old players, traditional tunes and new compositions. A small musical encylopedia which shows the various forms of this ancestral instrument: from zampogna a chiave in Lazio to the famed ciaramelle of Amatrice, from the surdulina in Basilicata to the double ciaramelle of Cilento, from the zampogna a paro of Calabria to the new prototypes made and played by the young generations.
