SKU 23-CHARLY 652X
“'The Scene Club was red hot, the hottest little club in London and in 1963 London was the centre of the world - even if the rest of the world didn't know it quite yet.' Norman Jopling (Record Mirror).
The club in Ham Yard, off Great Windmill Street, in Soho, central London had previously been a jazz club, but by 1963 it had become a revered mod venue, playing soul, R&B, blues, ska and rock'n'roll records to a sharply dressed crowd. This new compilation collects some of the classic tracks played there at the time. The 28 cuts include gems from Betty Everett, Ike and Tina Turner, Jimmy Reed, Billy Preston, The Upsetters and more and are presented in a deluxe rigid digibook package.”

“"The Scene Club" CD features early Soul and R&B tracks that would have been played by Guy Stevens down at the Ham Yard. Firstly the CD arrives as a hard back book format, so you do not get a normal CD, and the feel and look of the CD is brilliant. So first impressions is this CD looks the business, the front picture sold it to me regardless of the tracks.
So to the music, I am assuming that if you are reading this then you have some idea of what this CD is all about. Yes there are a couple of tracks that always gets comped, but the CD covers a wide range of familiar and unfamiliar songs, if you know your stuff then there wont be any surprises in terms of track selection, or you may have them on other compilations (or the original vinyl). But the flow of the tracks is nicely done. In all this CD is great addition to any collection, definitely recommend getting this CD.”
