Thank You Scientist - Maps of Non-Existent Places CD

First full length release from this NJ based, modern 'progressive rock and more' septet. This is even better than their very good debut and features an even wider range of instrumental textures in support of the songs.
Their music is very 'song' based, but features some great playing and tons of cool tricky instrumental bits both within and outside of the sung sections of the songs. Very modern extremely well done. This is complex, yet oddly accessible. Conditionally highly recommended.
"The follow up to Thank You Scientist's successful "Perils of Time Travel" EP, "Maps of Non-Existent Places" is the band's first full length record. Darker, denser, more complex and heavily orchestrated, yet brimming over with infectious poppy hooks and harmonies. This is the sound of a band discovering themselves, and letting their imaginations flow freely. Shades of The Beatles and Brian Wilson (the opening a capella piece prelude), Mr. Bungle (the quirky balkan shred and 19/16 groove on the ten minute "Blood on the Radio"), 70s jazz fusion luminaries such the Brecker Brothers and Mahavishnu Orchestra (the instrumental "Suspicious Waveforms") are just a few of the maddeningly diverse influences you'll find throughout this album."
