I had heard good things about this Brooklyn-based band of jazz musicians who take the instrumental folk music of the Balkans and Macedonia and give it their own twist several years ago, but when I finally got to actually hear one of their albums, I was quite surprised to find that one of the members is Matt Moran of the Claudia Quintet! This is a combination of traditional tunes and New Orleans funk tunes (Look-ka Py Py, Ya-Ya, etc) and the mix *works*! Recommended for ethnic music fans who aren't sticklers for 'tradition'!
