SOL (Screams of Life, apparently) are a Brazilian band from the south of Brazil, consisting of Gue Martini - vocals, bass, guitar, acoustic guitar. Roger Canal - vocals, guitar, bass, acoustic guitar, escaleta, keyboards. Tetsuo Kakuta - percussion. Marcelo Armani - drums. The Brazilian press has described them as 'modern-heavy rock with jazz influences; a mixing of the noise side of Sonic Youth with improvisations based on early psychadelic phase of Pink Floyd; a fusion of experimental Coltrane phase with post-hardcore of Mission of Burma; heavy rock with touches of Milton Nascimento’s music'. Elements of post-punk, post-rock, brutal-prog, math-rock and more. They don't wear it on their sleeves exactly, but you can also sometimes hear subtle Latin percussion touches that shows that they could have only come from South America. Great, refreshing music that has a lot of current influences that manages the trick of really not sounding like anyone else to my ears.
