"Oprachina is a neologism made up of the two words opra (opera) and china (bowed), meaning alienating, back-breaking work. Coined in the first half of the 20th century, the term features in the Italian version of the "Internationale" as well as other tracts of the period. Oprachina are committed to the continuous pursuit of an equilibrium between written passages and free improvisation, helping to develop a contemporary musical language. Their first creation, "The Jazz Farm" (2007), published under the Creative Commons licence, was hailed at the 2009 Cannes Midem as the most popular Italian album by the Jamendo portal (200.000 web downloads). In 2010 critic Giordano Selini included Oprachina among the top ten bands in Italian jazz.
Personnel:
Massimo Bognetti: Guitars. Directs the Etnofonie school of music.
Errico De Fabritiis: Saxes. Committed to improvised and contemporary music, he has figured in Musica Jazz magazine's "Top Ten" of musician-revelations in 2009 and 2010.
Fabio Fochesato: Bass guitar, double bass, arrangements. Has his fingers in various musical languages, from jazz to rock, world music to classic and contemporary music.
Adriano Galinari: Percussion. Has collaborated with many Italian and foreign musicians, including the never-to-be-forgotten Massimo Urbani.
