Nyman, Michael - Acoustic Accordions

I've been a big fan of 'minimalist' composer Michael Nyman since seeing him and his ensemble in 1977. He has a very distinctive voice as a composer, even though he is obviously influenced by Terry Riley, Philip Glass, Steve Reich; you know, the usual suspects. On one hand, I think he is tremendously under-recorded and under-rated on record. On the other hand, a lot of people have heard his music, since it's the soundtrack for many of crazy cult-filmaker Peter Greenaway's films. Accordions are a great instrument for his insistant, pulsing music and this is a fine addition to a collection of his works, or a great place to start. Highly recommended!
