This is one of the last, great French progressive rock albums of the 70s to receive their first reissue (although still no digital version, dagnabbit!). It’s much more acoustic gutiar based, but it is definitely comparable to Imventions for Electric Guitar; Mouline plays all the parts, but this is in no way a ‘solo guitar’ album!
This was on the ‘coming soon’ list from Musea for 20 years and it never happened; but here it is!
“The long anticipated official reissue of Chrysalide (1978), the sole album from French multi-instrumentalist and enigmatic genius Michel Moulinié. The krautrock/ambient/minimalism paragon is available as a limited-edition LP with one never-heard bonus track. It is sourced from the original reels and housed in a heavy 350gsm sleeve.
Originally released in 1978 on Ange and Jean-Claude Pognant's mythical prog rock label Crypto, Chrysalide is a fusion of minimalist meditations, cosmic soundscapes, and ambient with a human warmth, carried by a profoundly beautiful and unique use of twelve-string guitar, bass, and violon.
Ideal for an introspective listening experience, the hypnotic Kosmische Musik of Michel Moulinié belongs to the same psychedelic family as Manuel Göttsching's Inventions For Electric Guitar, Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells, early Tangerine Dream, and Steve Hillage's creative guitar mastery.”
“Beautiful album from a rather unknown Frenchie! Minimalist meditations made primarily on guitars & electric bass(sounds like a Rickenbacker)i.e. I hear echoes of Mr. Gottsching and Pinhas on this album and what sounds like synthesizers in the background BUT they could be processed guitars run thru delays and phase shifters. Still this is a very mellow and ethereal listen well worth the time investment.”
