bass clarinet (track 6) / Håvard Wiik, piano / Håkon Mjåset Johansen, drums / Ole Morten Vågan, double bass.
"Considering what we read somewhere in the package notes, this recording is a "smertzenfrei art transplantation". Don't ask what does this means – you'll understand when listening to the CD, but will always be uncapable to put it into words. The only thing you'll be able to argument is the consideration that this "transplantation" has more to do with vital organs than skin: it's deep and essential, not a cosmetic manipulation of apparencies. Involved are Atle Nymo, Havard Wiik, Ole Morten Vagan and Hakon Mjaset Johansen, some of the most notable improvisers in the Norwish scene, and a very special guest, German trumpet innovator Axel Dorner. The music inside is the kind you can expect from a Motif release: a mind-blowing post-bop journey with a Charles Mingus flavor, incorporating some avant-garde vocabularies and techniques, from free jazz to contemporary classical, and rhythm patterns from rock (there's a Frank Zappa influence all around, also present in the humouristic side of this proposal) and electronica (Squarepusher? Aphex Twin?). Every track results in a surprise, and a true gem. "Art Transplant" is a strong candidate for the 2011 best albums list, and surely you don't want to miss it."
