Mason, Nick - Nick Mason’s Fictitious Sports CD

SKU 28-RPLH247483.2
This 1981 solo album by the drummer of Pink Floyd is actually a weird hybrid of the lost 1980/1981 period of the Carla Bley band, when she was introducing a number of humorous songs into the band’s repertoire! Her entire band appears here, with the exception that drummer D Sharpe is replaced for this album recording by Nick.
But I did say hybrid, didn’t I? The other thing that makes this unique is that Carla or the band members would sing these songs in performance. But here, on the recording, the vocals are all done by Robert Wyatt, who puts in a really fine performance vocally.
So, if you want Floyd, you’re out of luck, but if you want something else, this is the ticket.

No "Floyd", but "Hot River" is one of the best faux-Floyd tunes: including wordless female vocals and an over-the-top solo by Chris Spedding.

A masterpiece where you can delight yourself in the compositional style and humor of Carla Bley plus mixed with some tasteful Prog/Canterbury touches, creating a unique kind of 'jazz rock' that has little to do with what many associate with 70s fusion.
