Lodestone - Time Flies CD

SKU 23-EXM 027
This is the first-ever CD release of this British proto-prog release from 1971 that wasn’t even released in the UK, but only in Germany and Switzerland! With a booklet featuring new liner notes on the making of the album, along with a science fiction short story.

“Lodestone played some kind of Pop/Psych/Prog along the lines of THE NICE, THE BEATLES and PROCOL HARUM, coloring their early psychedelic influences with dominant orchestral textures and beautiful melodies, led by DaCosta's organ, the shifting guitars of DaCosta and Morris and the smooth rhythm section.
It sounds pretty poppy at moments with a sweet 60's atmosphere akin to early PINK FLOYD, but their music contained plenty of classical-drenched showering, performed on some notable string segments and several harsichord lines.
For such an obscurity and its following poor promotion, the songwriting is pretty strong albeit rather outdated for today's standards. The mix of psychedelic overtones and symphonic directions is pretty great, the vocals are soft and nice and the music often tends to become intricate with some sort of clever breaks and injected sections with grandiose keyboards. One track even contains some beautiful flute lines next to the omnipresent Hammond organ, closing the style of FOCUS. Decent and well-played material.
I am not really a fan of transitional prog works, but ''Time flies'' deserves a better chance and certainly a CD reissue, because it is too good to be so obscure. Quasi-symphonic Psych/Pop with nice keyboard work and pretty great vocal parts. Recommended.”-rym
