This is a recording of a live performance from The Netherlands in 2003. Konono is an African band from Congo, who blend traditional Bazombo trance music with heavy amplification. The band features three electric likembes (thumb pianos), makeshift percussion (pots, pans, carparts) and singers as well as a home-built sound system. Even more than their (very excellent) studio album on Crammed, when you play this album at low volumes, you can tell that it was played VERY LOUD and the distortions that lead many reviewers to compare this to electronic music is more readily apparent. If you are at all interested in modern African pop - with a very unusual slant and a heavy trance element - I recommend this one highly. [Terp]
