Jonsson, Lars ‘Lachen’ - Exilens Sanger & Förvandlingar CD

SKU Bauta BAR 2401
Lars ‘Lachen’ has a very distinctive voice and sound. Long time Waysiders have probably heard one or more of his fine works and long time Waysiders will be thrilled to have a new one to add to his too small body of work. All instruments and vocal by ‘Lachen’, with added vocals by mezzosoprano Maria Wassrin.

“Some of this music was made and performed by Lars "lachen" Jonsson for a theater on stage in the 90’s. In these performances he worked together with the singer Maria Wassrin. The songs became an important element in the stage storytelling.
The short plays (Scenic poems) of Nelly Sachs are rarely performed. It is her lyrics that has got the most attention. She won the Nobel prize in 1966. Some of these poems have been set to music by Lars "Lachen" Jonsson.
Now all this musical material has been brought together on one album, together with a couple of newly composed pieces.
Everything is processed, expanded and remixed. Despite different styles and changing expressions, it has become a strong musical whole.
All songs are composed, recorded and produced by "Lachen" In The Forest studio, In the forests south of Linköping.”

“Perhaps best known for his work with the bands Zut un Feu Rouge and Ur Kaos, Lars Jonsson – a man who has always worked slowly and very carefully – has, after 34 years, completed his third solo album, an instantly recognisable, very grounded, collection of leider (songs doesn’t really cover it) with roots distributed across mediaeval, classical and contemporary forms.
As previously, Lars plays all the instruments himself (bass, drums, piano, organ, clavinet, harmonium, violin, electronics, hammered dulcimer, bowed guitar) but this time shares the singing with (the impeccable but unshowy) Maria Wassrin.
A re-mastered Ur Kaos appears on one track and the texts are all drawn from the work of the Nobel prize-winning German-Swedish lyric poet, Nelly Sachs. The sound is clear and clean; the arrangements feature only what is essential; it’s very well recorded and the musical language is refreshingly consistent, unfashionable and idiosyncratic. Serious work.”-Chris Cutler
