Listening to Hi Red Center's "Architectural Failures" reminds me a bit of The Work, circa "Slow Crimes." On this CD they use simple structures, sometimes limited to a single three note riff; and show a fondness for low-tech analog synth tones, meaning raw, simple tones with simple envelopes. Their dead-pan, vibrato-less vocals bring to mind Charles Hayward and This Heat. Hi Red Center is: Ben Lanz - guitar, trombone voice; Russell Greenberg - vibes, drums, electronics, voice; Lawrence Mesich - bass, voice; Michael McCurdy - drums. I recommend them to fans of the above mentioned artists and their associated bands, and to fans of Cheer Accident and others in this vein. Caveat, this CD is just under 30 min. -- Versoix
