Performed by pianists Michle Thomasson, Michele Fedrigotti & Danilo Lorenzini. "Born in the south Caucuses where the ethnic mix of peoples (Russian, Greek, Iranian, Tartar and Armenian) led to a cross- fertilization of different cultures and customs, G.I. Gurdjieff soon became convinced that at one time there must have existed a real knowledge of man and nature. With his 'Seekers of Truth' groups comprising archaeologists, geographers and doctors and overcoming enormous difficulties Gurdjieff managed to contact severalcommunities in Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia, gathering the dispersed fragments of traditional wisdom that he then gradually brought to the West and to the teaching of which he was to dedicate his whole life. His musical works are the fruit of close collaboration with the composer Thomas de Hartman, who was Gurdjieff's student until 1916. In these works are th revived the sounds of Gurdjieff's childhood, those of his native land with its dense weave of ancient cultures and traditions, but also of numerous journeys. Yet the music eludes historical or cultural classification and seems written with a special intent and aim, a music that elicits questions, and provides answers, difficult to find elsewhere and that allows the attentive listener to discover ever vaster regions of contemplation and silence.
