Good improvised rock music from a Finnish trio of guitar, keyboards and drums. "Gnomus is a group that plays experimental improvised music = asopposed to playing pre-composed pieces the music of Gnomus shapesitself during the performance. The music evolves according to theenvironment and utilizes the advantages of acoustics. There are nopreset stylistic barriers, however, the listener may usually noticeelements from such musical phenomena as ambient, noise and modalism. The personnel of Gnomus has remained unchanged since 1998, the year of first Gnomus concert. Outside Gnomus, Kari Ikonen (b. 1973) on keyboards is known for his own group Karikko and numerous big band compositions, some of which have received first prizes on international composition contests. Mika Kallio (b. 1974) on drums has played with many domestic and international stars, including Tomasz Stanko and Pekka Pohjola. Like Ikonen, guitarist Esa Onttonen (b. 1975) is also doing a lot of compositional work, including works for big bands, chamber orchestras and his own group Gourmet. Recorded live during the last four concerts of the March 2003 tour in Finland, this album finds Gnomus unearthing sonic fantasies darker, heavier and more sinister than on its acclaimed out-of-print debut album of 2000. These completely improvised tracks come from three different performances, offering relatively broad view to the art of improvisation as envisioned by Gnomus." [Flasko]
