Davidson, Lowell - Lowell Davidson Trio
SKU
05-ESP1012
A classic ESP release, recorded July 27, 1965 and ESP's 12th release. Davidson was a pianist who was recommended to ESP by Ornette Coleman. Guitarist Joe Morris has spoken frequently of his work with Lowell Davidson. Davidson is very well supported here by Gary Peacock-bass and Milford Graves-drums.
"Brought to the attention of ESP-Disk by Ornette Coleman, Lowell Davidson recorded his singular session, Trio, on July 27th, 1965 with Gary Peacock and the ever-amazing Milford Graves. Sadly, the only recording ever released by Davidson, it remains fresh and exciting 40-plus years later. A unique piano trio recording in the tradition of Cecil Taylor and Herbie Nichols."
"...absorbing music balanced stylistically between Paul Bley and Cecil Taylor. Davidson quite clearly had considerable technical facility, a formed compositional sense and an awful lot of bad luck. His parners on this disc, both considerably more celebrated than him and both still successfully pursuing their careers, give Davidson strong support."-The Gramophone Good CD Guide
