of intense, smoldering, flat-out jazz. Over the course of his 20-plus year career, D’Angelo has established himself as a shocking
improviser and brilliant composer. His continued assault on musical boundaries and his iconoclastic musical ideas (documented most notably in the bands Tyft, the Matt Wilson Quartet and Human Feel) have been powerful inspirations to his peers and to a new generation of
improvisers. On Skadra Degis, D’Angelo pays tribute to the inspirations of his youth while maintaining his ruthless individuality, creating a deeply personal, ultra-modern record of finely crafted, passionate, swinging jazz. With Jim Black on drums and Trevor Dunn on bass, Skadra Degis is a remarkable trio record, moving seamlessly between haunting ballads, frenetic psycho free-blasting, and reasonably straight-ahead swing.
Andrew D'Angelo is a bass clarinetist, alto saxophonist, composer, electronic artist, graphic designer, light sculptor, and videographer living in Brooklyn, New York. As mentioned above he a member of Tyft, the Matt Wilson Quartet and Human Feel as well as the band Morthana.
Jim Black is one of the busiest drummers working today, and has toured extensively with diverse groups including Ellery Eskelin, Chris Speed's Yeah No, Tim Berne's Bloodcount, Dave Douglas' Tiny Bell Trio, Uri
Caine's Mahler, Bach, Mozart and Berio Projects, and Laurie Anderson. His band AlasNoAxis has four CDs available on Winter & Winter Recordings.
Trevor Dunn can be heard on over 60 recordings including the complete works of Mr Bungle and Fantomas. He has recently been playing with two of John Zorn's groups, Electric Masada and Moonchild, as well as
Curtis Hasselbring's NME, and with Calvin Weston and Raz Mesinai."
