“This previously unreleased set captures the first line-up of the remarkable Catapilla in rehearsal in 1970. Taped by guitarist Barry Clark (ex-Pussy), it's a vital document of a pioneering progressive jazz-rock band. It comes in gatefold sleeve with a 12-page booklet featuring detailed notes and many rare images.”

“The sound is not too bad. (If you like the Cressida demos you will like these recordings, too!) The band plays astonishingly tight. All instruments are mixed in good manner to each other, there's no real distortion. But it is from an old tape with a few minor flaws, I think that it could be a soundboard recording.
Interestingly it is not Anna Meek singing but her sister Jo who sang before her with the band. I like her voice but she is more kind of a folk singer. And she could hit the right notes! (I always thought of Anna that her style of singing on the first LP is pre-punk caught in a Jazz band - that feeling is something one might miss here.) But listening to the known first two tracks there is not too much difference in the vocal melodies.
The first side is brilliant IMHO, the second not bad.
The best thing about it is the booklet in LP size in which some of the band members reflect the time from pre-Catapilla until break up and after. That alone is worth the LP.”-Heine Musik
