“Camel are an English progressive rock band who rose to prominence during the mid-70s. Their breakthrough album released in 1975 was an instrumental, orchestrated concept album The Snow Goose, inspired by the Paul Gallico short story of the same name. The follow up album was the last to feature the original line-up, and after various changes the band recorded a more commercial album I Can See Your House From Here in 1979.
The resulting tour was the first outing for the new line-up of founder members Andrew Latimer (guitar, vocals, flute, recorder, keyboards, bass guitar) and Andy Ward (drums, percussion), Colin Bass (bass guitar, vocals, keyboard, acoustic guitar), Jan Schelhaas from Caravan (keyboards) and Kit Watkins (keyboards, flute).
With this line-up the band embarked on an extensive tour, and this album brought is taken from a radio broadcast of a live performance by the band in Tokyo.
The set list comes mainly from the I Can See Your House album and the invigorating combination of the new line-up and musical style is self-evident. This is a unique opportunity to hear the band in this configuration.”
“How nice to find this live CD of Camel. A much under rated group which have not had the accolades they deserve. This CD features them in Tokyo...although not a full show this features some classic Camel such as Echoes, Neon Magic and Wait as well as a truncated version of The Snow Goose.
The playing is immaculate as would be expected form this version of the group (which has Colin Bass, Andrew Latimer, Andy Ward, Kit Watkins and Jan Schelhass).
The sound is very good although some of the spoken introductions can be a little muddy. Comes with a short booklet summarizing the history of the group up to this point. A worthy addition to the collection and hopefully the first of more radio shows from Camel in the future.”
