Tim Buckley was an extremely talented folkie guitarist and singer who started to stretch his music way beyond the boundaries of folk, culminating in his masterpieces Lorca and Starsailor in 1970. This is the first-ever collection of his television appearances, and it's really a pretty stunning document if you were ever a fan. A full hour and 45 minutes long, this pretty much gives you everything that was in the vaults some in amazingly pristine, first-generation quality, a booklet of unpublished photos as well as interviews with musicians who worked with him. Highly recommended for those in the know!
"This is the first-ever collection of rare videos from Tim Buckley's live performances, including thirteen full-length songs. The footage spans his entire career, from 1967 to 1974, and includes unreleased video of interaction with Buckley on The Steve Allen Show (1969) and on WITF's The Show (1970). This DVD also features interviews with Larry Beckett (co-writer of many songs with Buckley), Lee Underwood (Buckley's guitarist) and David Browne (author of "Dream Brother: The Lives of Jeff and Tim Buckley")."
"This is a very special project, a fantastic documentary DVD containing footage of British, American, and Dutch television programs featuring Tim Buckley, which are like stepping into a time capsule, the crystal-clear images from another era revealing the rich texture of the audio, visual, and -- most important -- brilliant performances, like the 1973 video clip of "Sally Go Round the Roses" or Fred Neil's "The Dolphins" from The Old Grey Whistle Test on the BBC from May 21, 1974. The material is beautifully chronicled with commentary by three authors, friend/guitarist Lee Underwood, biographer David Browne, and lyricist Larry Beckett. Opening with Mark Wheat's narration, the story flawlessly unfolds and gives insight into the brief career of the totally musical Buckley. As entertaining as it is informative, the DVD features a deluxe 12-page photo booklet including detailed liner notes and some delicious extras of Beckett reading "Notes: Songs to the Siren" and "On the Hook," Underwood telling the story of the theme to the film Midnight Cowboy, and Beckett and Underwood going through all of Buckley's original albums. As perfect as a DVD can be, this is a real keeper and also a superb template for other such projects. Great content from start to finish, worth exploring again and again."-Joe Viglione/All Music Guide
