Compiled by Paolo Barotto and Marco D'Ubaldo, this is an amazingly nice and opulent package. It features a hardbound, glossy paper, full color 150 page book that is a discography for 1970s Italian progressive rock, with artists, albums, label and catalog numbers and rarity index included for a huge number of bands. And there are tons of photos of the album covers as well as lots of musician/band photos, including ones I had never seen before (and I've seen plenty). In addition, you get a great sampler album with 15 tracks by bands like Area, Cherry Five, Delirium, Metamorfosi, New Trolls, Le Orme, Osage Tribe, Osanna, Panna Fredda, Quella Vecchia Locanda and more, which compliments the book nicely. These bands weren't copying something that came before them; they were creating something new and creating a sound that is still reverberating in 'prog bands' today. This has something for the neophyte (the excellent sampler disc) and for the expert (the discography and photos) and is just extremely nice.
