A excellent 4 CD tribute - with a ton of never-heard rarities and unreleased BBC and live material - to this pioneering UK progressive band who fused blues, jazz and progressive and more, in a similar vein to Cream (one of their admitted influeces), but jazzier, which isn't surprising, as all of the members were UK jazzers who didn't want to starve to death and saw an opportunity to do something really cool yet still perhaps reach an audience. Which they did! This was assembled with the help of leader/drummer Jon Hiseman. It includes many highlights from the bands albums as well as numerous previously-unissued studio and live outtakes, including BBC session material, the aborted late '60s single 'Tell Me Now' and a large number of alternative recordings from the tour that was immortalised on what many admirers believe to be the band's definitive work, Colosseum Live. Lavishly packaged with unpublished photos and a 10,000 word essay, Morituri Te Salutant is the final word on one of the most individual and iconoclastic British bands to emerge from the musical and cultural revolution of the '60s.
