This is long out of print, on the always excellent See For Miles reissue label. Alto saxophonist Earl Bostic was a master of his instrument, but he was somewhat underappreciated by jazz fans due to the string of popular R&B/jump blues hits he recorded during his heyday in the '50s. This collection, which traces his recorded history via the 7" records that were released between 1949-1958, is classic, swinging jump/r 'n' b. Many fine, young, soon to be established jazzers appear here: Jimmy Cobb, Jaki Byard, Keeter Betts, John Coltrane, Stanley and Tommy Turrentine, George Tucker, etc etc and all keep in mind the fact that the swing's the thing! Party music of the first order.
